Parking Citation Appeals Process

You can appeal a citation if you believe it was issued by mistake or if you were not in violation. Appeals must be submitted within 30 days of the date the citation was written.

Unacceptable Appeals

  • Expired Meter
  • Forgetfulness
  • Only parked for a short time
  • Vehicle was parked by another person
  • Failure to see parking signs
  • Paid with ParkMobile after the citation was written

How to Appeal a Citation

Citations cannot be appealed after 30 days.

  • Download and print the Citation Appeal Form (PDF) if you prefer to write your appeal by hand.
  • Submit the form in person or by mail to the Parking Office: 27 Armory Building, 2519 Osborn Drive, Ames, IA, 50011-1049

After the Appeals Process

Final Decision

  • After the Traffic Appeals Board makes a decision, you may request an administrative hearing if you disagree with the outcome.
  • The hearing can be requested in writing or in person.

The Traffic Appeals Board reviews and rules on appeals of parking citations.

  • One member from Supervisory and Confidential staff
  • Two members from Merit staff
  • Two members from Professional and Scientific staff
  • Two members from the Faculty
  • Two student representatives appointed by the Student Government
